Pacific South Region 2021 Report
This has been a very unusual year for the entire world. Covid 19 was declared a pandemic and a national emergency in March 2020. Starts and stops, open and closed, mandates continued for 15 months. Churches were ‘closed’ and celebrations were canceled. The schools haven’t resumed for ‘in-person’ learning in my region. Fear has been mounting with some people being afraid that things will never be back to “normal”. Evidence is all around us that eyes are not on our salvation through Jesus Christ but are on the government to have the answer to save us and make us safe.
Does this remind you of a time in history when Jesus came into Jerusalem on a colt and He was praised? The crowds thought he came to save the world from all the corruption that was occurring at that time. A week later they condemned him and crucified him in frustration and anger.
One consequence of the pandemic was the cancellation of our Women’s Retreat in March 2020. The retreat center that we used was sold early this year and our deposit was returned. Without any promise of re-opening, we have been unable to schedule another retreat for 2021. The WM Pacific Region South board has not resumed meeting yet this year as our state just opened on June 15. Efforts to resume regional meetings will be pursued in September. All business has been suspended at this time. There is no change to the current executive team: Cindy Whalen, Vice-President; Sharon Walters, Treasurer; and Mariann Vetrhus, Secretary.
On a side note, the women in the local churches continue to find ways to work together on meeting the needs of their local congregations.
Back to the beginning of the report. What can we expect going forward during these times? We must engage in personal and corporate prayer for our country, our churches, and our brothers and sisters.
We must be creative to continue our mission to equip women to grow in the Grace and Knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We must keep our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.
Remember that this world is not our home, we are set apart, and have been called to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Respectfully submitted,
Renae Paulson
